Some usage methods of sterilizer

Pressure steam sterilizer

Add water to the outer cylinder and put the sterilized items into the inner cylinder. Cover the sterilizer lid and tighten the screw to make it airtight. Heat the sterilizer with gas or electric furnace, and open the exhaust valve at the same time to exhaust the cold air in it, otherwise the pressure shown on the pressure gauge is not all steam pressure, and the sterilization will be incomplete.

After all the cold air is exhausted (that is, when water vapor is continuously discharged from the exhaust valve), close the exhaust valve. Continue heating, and when the pressure gauge gradually rises to the required pressure (generally 101.53 kPa, that is, 15 pounds/inch2, and the temperature is 121.3℃), adjust the furnace fire, maintain the pressure and temperature (be careful not to over-high pressure to avoid accidents), and maintain for 15~30 minutes. After the sterilization time is reached, stop heating, and when the pressure drops to zero, slowly open the exhaust valve to exhaust the remaining gas and open the lid to take out the items. Do not suddenly open the exhaust valve when the pressure has not dropped to zero to avoid liquid spraying out of the sterilizer.

Dry heat sterilizer

Pack glassware such as culture dishes, pipettes, and test tubes and place them in a box, and heat them with the door closed. When the temperature rises to 160-170℃, maintain the temperature for 2 hours. After the time is up, stop heating and wait until the temperature naturally drops below 40℃ before opening the door to take out the objects. Otherwise, the sudden entry of cold air may cause the glass to crack, and the overflow of hot air may often burn the skin of the person taking the objects. Generally, pipettes, test tubes, culture dishes, vaseline, liquid paraffin, etc. can be sterilized by this method.
